Au Pair to Bring Germany to Third Graders for International Education Week
FAIRFIELD, CT – On Tuesday, November 16, Malin Boegelmann, a German au pair in Fairfield, will share her native land with third graders at Osborne Hill in Fairfield in the first of several presentations scheduled to commemorate International Education Week (November 15 – 19).
Malin will present her culture and customs to the classroom as part of the Global Awareness (www.globalawareness.com) program. To celebrate International Education Week (http://iew.state.gov/), Global Awareness presentations are also scheduled at North Stratfield Elementary School and Stratfield Elementary School with Brazilian and Guatemalan au pairs.
"The children enjoy these presentations tremendously," states Lisa Burger, the Au Pair in America local counselor for Fairfield. "It's a very natural fit: our au pairs are wonderful with children and are very proud of their home country. Their excitement and ability to connect with the kids results in both effective learning and a very fun experience. We always receive such positive feedback from the students."
For a complete listing of presentations and schools, contact Lisa at (203) 366-1150. Sponsored by Au Pair in America (www.aupairinamerica.com), the presentations aim to promote multi-cultural understanding and appreciation in pre-school, elementary and middle school classrooms.
As part of the presentation, Malin will display authentic German art as well as share native food and dance, while also hosting a mini-language lesson.
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
Au Pair in America, the nation's first legal au pair agency celebrating its' 25th anniversary in 2011, matches potential au pairs that meet the different criteria posed by host families.
